XXYYXX - About You

I’ve introduced you to XXYYXX before, probably one my favorite 16 year old producers right now. Well the lead track off his debut s/t album just got the slow-mo-hot-girl-smoking-blunts treatment. And I gotta say, it’s really working for me.

Directed by Jeff Vash. Download XXYYXX here from Relief in Abstract. And I suggest you stay hip to his soundcloud as he drops rare gems on there from time to time.

Julia Holter & Jib Kidder - My Baby

Julia lured me in, but this cat Jib is bar-none. Wow.

bitzlbitzlr:

“Jib Kidder has been creating new junk out of existing junk for the past 15 years,” a cut-chop-paste sample-rearranging obsessive Sean Yent Schuster-Craig has 13 releases on Bandcamp…

Steal Guitars LP is coming out on Portland label State Rights Records, it’s a psychedelic re-envisioning of techniques used in 1950s-1960s Country & Western musics. There’s also a remix album, Steal Guitars: Fencing Partners, that’s where Julia Holter comes in. Borrowing from album track ‘Ringtone Cowboy’, Holter has crafted ‘My Baby’ a twinkling lullaby of drifting guitar and woozy, husky vocals. Sublime.

Wow, Bathetic is putting out some seriously quality shit.  Too bad I’m way late to the party on this one and there are no copies left on wax…

So glad I stumbled upon this video while wandering around the Bathetic Records site. Stunning winter desolation that, in reality, I didn’t get enough of this year.  I’ll settle for an auditory hallucination.  Pick up the cassette release here.

Elegant Animals - Syndicate

So glad that my bro Mark turned me onto these guys.  The rest of the record is great too.

Elegant Animals - Syndicate

The supernova burst from artists like The Weeknd and Frank Ocean in a universe vacated(?) by D’Angelo has all kinds of ripple effects.  The duo of vocalist/producer Jules Kazys and Brandon Shockley on lead guitar here in Philly have just crafted an incredible compliment - a nebula if you will - to the burgeoning post-R&B scene with their debut Spectrum Nocturnal. Juicy, sexy, ready for all-night sky viewing.

Highly recommend listening to the whole thing. Nab it on their Bndcmp.

Looking forward to more from these guys.

Lockets - Catch Me

Happy that this Philly dreampop duo asked me to debut their new song set to the footage from Bullet Ballet (1998) directed by Shinya Tsukamoto. The clip was an inspired choice to join this single, reflecting that strange urban isolation that feels beautiful and crazed and surreal and unacceptable all at the same time. I guess that’s kinda the point of gauzy dreampop - finding the fine line of tension between discord and harmony.

Watch for more from these guys - and go check out there other great single “Camera Shy” over on Bndcmp.

Monster Rally & RUMTUM - Raindrops

This is truly a collaboration made in heaven. A tropical, beat-laden heaven. Premiered on YVYNYL yesterday, I was overly excited to see that this wasn’t a one track wonder. But rather nice long EP, getting the full Waaga treatment. You can pre-order the nine song EP, which releases in February, here.
